Discussions of another NFL boycott reignited after Commissioner Goodell defended Colin Kaepernick, saying football fans should be more understanding when players protest the national anthem.
The remarks came after unknown NFL players Michael Bennett and Marshawn Lynch refused to stand at recent games.
Of course, those two unknowns seem to have been only trying to raise their name recognition on the back of Kaepernick and his stupidity.
From NY Daily News:
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says football fans should be more understanding when players protest the national anthem.
During a Q&A session with Cardinals season-ticket holders, Goodell was asked if he believes protests are “going to be another problem” this season.
This past weekend, Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch and Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett both sat down while the national anthem was played before their preseason games.
“It’s one of those things where we have to understand that there are people who have different viewpoints,” Goodell said via ESPN. “It’s something that I think everybody wants.
The national anthem is a special moment for me. It’s a point of pride. That is a really important moment but we also have to understand the other side – that people do have rights, and we want to respect those.”
“Protest to progress is what I call it. We all have to recognize that people want to see change. Let’s go out and try to make that happen in a peaceful and an important way,” Goodell said.
I think it is time to fire Goodell! NFL fans are patriotic and you are not going to change that!
The NFL almost sank last year because of Colin Kaepernick and his 3 minute antic!
Colin Kaepernick and his faux protest cost the 49ers $$Millions of dollars!
The NFL was been forced to Refund Advertisers Because of Historic Low Viewership!
Monday Night Football hit its lowest viewership EVER as the protests have escalated!
In fact, the NFL’s Monday Night Football lost almost half it’s viewership within a 2 weeks period!!
One anonymous AFC general manager chalked Kaepernick’s cold reception up to three things:
1) he can’t play at a high performance level anymore,
2) owners fear his presence will cause a backlash among the fan base, and
3) owners and organizations simply hate him.
Kaepernick has the constitutional freedom to protest all he wants. But there are consequences, especially when you chose to protest on your employer’s time clock.
Goodell best pay attention to the NFL fan base. They are not easily conned! He should be telling NFL EMPLOYEES to keep their politics to their own time and not pulling their antics on their EMPLOYER’S time clock.
I predict that this will be a rough season again for advertising at the NFL. Maybe when the dollars disappear because the fans are not watching, someone will take hold of this problem.
Now that Goodell has given the go ahead, this problem will most likely get worse, all so that he could make himself look politically correct.
Roger Goodell is a goober. He has a lot to learn about business.
